Early Spring Snowfall Covers Backyard Landscape

Shape Shifting Night

The morning shares its stillness

as the edges of the oaks emerge.

Squiggly black lines drawn

against the deep blue sky.

The woods shape shift,

awakening into the inky twilight.

The red fox’s paw left its signature

in the newly fallen snow.

He knows where to find movement

hidden in the darkness.

The vigilant fox becomes the early crow,

cawing a message that light is coming.
