Winter Shape Shifts into Spring

Early Spring Snowfall Covers Backyard Landscape
Shape Shifting Night
The morning shares its stillness
as the edges of the oaks appear.
Squiggly black lines drawn
against the deep blue sky.
The woods shape shift awake
from the inky darkness.
The red fox’s paw left its signature
in the newly fallen snow.
He knows there is always movement
in the dark
The perceptive fox becomes the early crow
cawing a message that light is coming.
